Recent research has revealed that acupuncture is an effective treatment for headaches

Last Thursday I attended a webinar course looking at the classification, prevalence and management of headaches. There are many types of headaches including migraines, tension headaches, sinus and structural headaches (caused by the neck, head or jaw). There are even headaches caused by overuse of medication where the painkiller causes the headache — these are usually daily!

The global burden of disease study 2017 revealed that 50% of the population suffer from headaches and it is the second leading cause of disability and absenteism from work.

In the copy of the BMJ dated 28th March, a three-arm trial form Hubai University of Chinese Medicine in Wuhan showed that acupuncture had a good long term effect on chronic headaches and migraines. In December 2012 NICE compiled a network analysis which showed that acupuncture was better than medication in the treatment of migraine and chronic headaches. NICE recommends acupuncture for the treatment of headaches.

I will leave the last words to Rae Vrooljak: After suffering with migraines for over twenty years and having all the conventional treatments with little success, I finally found Denise.  In a relatively short space of time , with regular treatments I have noticed a vast improvement; with my migraines being less frequent and shorter lasting. It is a work in progress but not one I am willing to give up on.
